According to officials, Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami was leading a search team along a narrow mountain ridge in challenging terrain when he reportedly lost his footing and fell into a deep gorge.
Fellow soldiers immediately launched a rescue effort and rushed to assist the officer. However, despite their efforts, he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the fall.
The tragic incident occurred amid ongoing counter-terror operations in one of the most difficult and rugged regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
White Knight Corps Pays Tribute to Fallen Army Officer
The White Knight Corps expressed profound grief over the loss of Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami, describing his death as a supreme sacrifice made while carrying out operational duties in the service of the nation.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra and all ranks of the White Knight Corps paid tribute to the officer, honoring his dedication, courage, and commitment to duty.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the White Knight Corps said:
"GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks express profound grief on the untimely demise of Lieutenant Beereshwar Goswami, who made the supreme sacrifice while undertaking operational duties in an area marked by rugged terrain, steep cliffs and adverse weather conditions."
A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled to be held at Air Force Station Jammu at 9:45 AM, where military officials and personnel will pay their final respects to the fallen officer.
What Is Operation Sherawali?
Operation Sherawali was launched in late May 2026 in the dense forests of the Dorimaal-Gambhir Mughalan belt in Rajouri district. The mission was initiated following intelligence reports indicating the presence of Pakistani terrorists hiding in the remote mountainous region.
Security agencies believe that three Pakistani terrorists, including a senior commander known by the code name "Fauji," are currently taking shelter in the forested terrain.
Massive Search Operation Underway in Rajouri
For more than two weeks, Indian Army and paramilitary forces have been conducting extensive search operations across the region. Security personnel are facing numerous challenges, including steep mountain slopes, thick vegetation, adverse weather conditions, and difficult accessibility.
To eliminate the terrorist threat, forces have established strategic cordons, set up ambushes, and deployed advanced surveillance equipment, including drones and tracker dogs.
The operation remains active as security forces continue efforts to locate and neutralize the terrorists hiding in the area.
