Heavy Security Arrangements in Place as Authorities Begin Road-Widening Project in Malviya Nagar

Jaipur: Authorities have imposed extensive security measures across parts of Jaipur, including the suspension of mobile internet services and deployment of more than 3,000 police personnel, ahead of a major anti-encroachment drive in the city's Malviya Nagar area.

The operation, being conducted by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), is part of a long-pending road-widening project aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving urban infrastructure in the state capital.

Officials said the administration has taken precautionary measures to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of misinformation during the demolition and clearance operation.

Why Is Jaipur Under Strict Vigil?

The anti-encroachment drive focuses on a 1.5-kilometre stretch of Nandpuri Road, located parallel to a railway line in Malviya Nagar.

According to officials, the road currently measures approximately 25 to 30 feet in width, whereas revenue records indicate that it is legally designated as an 80-foot-wide road corridor.

The Jaipur Development Authority plans to remove encroachments that have allegedly hindered the expansion project for several years.

Authorities believe the widening project will significantly improve traffic movement and urban connectivity in the area.

Religious Structures Among Encroachments Identified

Officials stated that five religious structures fall within the designated road boundary identified in official land records.

These include:

• A mosque
• A temple
• A satsang hall
• A shrine
• Another religious structure within the project zone

According to the administration, notices were issued and occupants were given time to voluntarily relocate or remove structures before the deadline expired.

Authorities had earlier cleared approximately 134 other encroachments along the proposed road expansion route during a previous phase of the operation.

Mobile Internet Services Suspended

In anticipation of potential law-and-order challenges, the Jaipur Divisional Commissioner ordered the suspension of mobile internet and social media services across several police districts.

The restrictions remain in effect from midnight of June 7 until midnight of June 8.

The temporary shutdown includes:

• 2G mobile internet
• 3G mobile internet
• 4G mobile internet
• 5G mobile internet
• Social media platforms
• Bulk messaging services

Officials clarified that voice calling services remain operational and are not affected by the restrictions.

The move aims to prevent the circulation of rumors, misinformation, and provocative content during the operation.

The suspension affects multiple areas across Jaipur, including:

Several other nearby regions and police station jurisdictions are also covered under the temporary restrictions.

More Than 3,000 Police Personnel Deployed

To ensure smooth execution of the anti-encroachment drive, authorities have implemented one of the city's largest recent security deployments.

According to officials:

• More than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed.
• Twelve companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been stationed across sensitive locations.
• Additional police forces have been mobilized from Jaipur, Kota, and Bharatpur ranges.
• Approximately 1,000 extra police personnel from the Commissionerate have been assigned to strategic points throughout the city.

The deployment includes crowd-control units, rapid response teams, intelligence personnel, and traffic management teams.

Administration Focused on Maintaining Law and Order

Officials emphasized that the primary objective of the security arrangements is to maintain peace and prevent any communal tensions or disturbances during and after the demolition drive.

Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found spreading false information, inflammatory content, or rumors through online platforms or other communication channels.

The administration has urged residents to rely only on official information sources and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

Community Appeals and Local Concerns

Ahead of the operation, representatives of local community organizations held meetings and appealed to authorities regarding some of the religious structures scheduled for removal.

Members of the Rajasthan Muslim Forum reportedly offered prayers and requested authorities to consider preserving the Noorani Mosque and an adjoining shrine located within the affected area.

Officials, however, maintain that the road-widening project is being executed in accordance with revenue records and urban planning requirements.
