Saint Petersburg, Russia: Russian President Vladimir Putin has lauded India's technology talent and software industry, describing Indian coders as among the best in the world and highlighting the country's growing role in the global digital economy.
Speaking at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026, Putin praised India's achievements in information technology and software development, emphasizing the country's significant contribution to the global technology sector.
Putin Highlights India's Strength in Information Technology
During his address at the forum, Putin referred to India as one of Russia's key strategic partners and acknowledged the country's impressive growth in the IT industry.
"I would like to welcome another key partner of ours, India, which is one of the leading players in the IT industry. It accounts for a significant share of the global software market," Putin said.
The Russian President further praised the capabilities of India's technology professionals, stating that Indian talent has earned worldwide recognition for its expertise and innovation.
"We know how talented the Indian people are, how well-educated and competent they are. They have achieved worldwide renown, especially in coding," he added.
India-Russia Relations Remain Strong
Putin also highlighted the long-standing relationship between India and Russia, describing the partnership as one built on trust, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Speaking at the plenary session, he said that India and Russia share "very good, trust-based, brotherly relations in all senses of the word."
The remarks reflect the deep diplomatic, economic, and strategic ties that have existed between the two nations for decades.
India's Growing Influence in the Global Digital Economy
The Russian President's comments come at a time when India continues to strengthen its position as a global technology powerhouse. The country has emerged as a leading hub for software services, artificial intelligence, fintech innovation, digital payments, cloud computing, and technology exports.
Indian engineers, developers, and technology professionals are playing increasingly influential roles across multinational corporations, global startups, and research institutions worldwide.
India's expanding digital infrastructure and thriving startup ecosystem have further enhanced its reputation as one of the fastest-growing technology markets in the world.
Putin on BRICS Growth and Global Economic Shift
During the forum, Putin also spoke about the growing economic influence of the BRICS bloc and its increasing role in shaping the future global economy.
According to Putin, BRICS nations surpassed the G7 economies in terms of economic weight in 2020, and the gap is expected to widen further in the coming years.
"BRICS already overtook the G7 back in 2020, and this gap is expected to grow. BRICS is going to grow at a steadily greater pace. While the G7 is expected to grow at best by 1.1% per year, BRICS nations are projected to grow by more than 4%," he said.
He added that stronger growth prospects make BRICS nations increasingly attractive destinations for investment, production, and trade, contributing to a gradual shift in the global financial and economic landscape.
India's Technology Workforce Gains Global Recognition
Putin's remarks underscore India's growing importance in the global technology ecosystem and reinforce the international recognition of the country's skilled workforce.
As India continues to advance in emerging technologies and digital innovation, its software professionals and technology companies are expected to play an even greater role in shaping the future of the global economy.
