Kochi, Kerala: The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of acclaimed Malayalam actor Salim Kumar, who passed away on Saturday night at the age of 56. The National Award-winning actor, celebrated for his remarkable contributions to Malayalam cinema, was rushed to Amrita Hospital in Kochi before his demise.
The Government of Kerala officially confirmed the death of the veteran actor and expressed profound grief over the loss of one of Malayalam cinema’s most respected performers.
In an official statement, the state government described Salim Kumar as a renowned actor whose work left an enduring impact on the Malayalam film industry. The statement highlighted his outstanding achievements, including winning the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his critically acclaimed performance in Adaminte Makan Abu. He had previously received the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor in 2005 for Achanurangatha Veedu.
Kerala Government Announces State Honours for Salim Kumar
As a mark of respect, the Kerala government announced that Salim Kumar’s mortal remains would be kept at Paravur Town Hall from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on June 7, allowing the public, fans, and members of the film fraternity to pay their final respects.
His funeral is scheduled to be held at 3:00 PM at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam.
The state government has also decided to bear the expenses associated with the funeral and related arrangements. Official honours will be accorded during the ceremony, with the District Collector placing a wreath on behalf of the Government of Kerala. The District Police Chief will oversee police honours, including a ceremonial bugle salute.
