A major fire erupted at a coaching centre in the Purnia area of Aliganj, Lucknow, on Monday, triggering panic among students and prompting a large-scale rescue operation. Several students reportedly jumped from the building to escape the flames, while emergency teams rushed to evacuate those trapped inside.
According to officials, at least six people sustained injuries and were admitted to the trauma centre at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) for treatment. Rescue operations continued late into the day amid fears that more individuals could still be inside the building.
Fire Tenders and Rescue Teams Deployed
Following reports of the blaze, eight fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot. Firefighters and emergency personnel launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to evacuate students and staff from the affected coaching institute.
Authorities said rescue teams conducted a room-by-room search, including washrooms and other enclosed spaces, after some students who escaped informed officials that others might still be trapped inside.
Students Jump From Building to Save Themselves
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as students attempted to flee the building. Local residents reported that several students jumped from upper floors to avoid being caught in the flames and smoke.
According to residents, around seven to eight students leaped from the building during the incident. Some suffered injuries and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Injured Shifted to KGMU Trauma Centre

Possible Cause of Fire Under Investigation
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, local residents suggested that the blaze may have been triggered by an electrical spark. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the cause and have launched an investigation into the incident.
Fire department officials are expected to conduct a detailed inspection of the premises once rescue operations are completed.
Uttar Pradesh Government Monitors Situation
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak described the incident as deeply distressing and assured that all necessary medical and rescue assistance was being provided.
He stated that specialist doctors, ambulances, and emergency teams had been deployed immediately. Hospitals across the city were also placed on alert to ensure prompt treatment for those injured in the incident.
